The Brother Carl Institute for Violence Prevention is designed to support both immediate and long-term goals to reduce community and gun violence locally and nationally by providing training, supervision, to victims, families, and community members. The curriculum is comprised of evidence-based strategies to help reduce violence.

Having been surrounded by a cohort of elite experienced men of color was not only inspiring, but extremely liberating. The “Just for Men” training that took place at the Brother Carl Institute: For Violence Prevention and Community Engagement located at 444 Albany Avenue in Hartford Connecticut was professionally facilitated with impactful information. The fellowship, safe spaces, and conversations highlighted the fact that, we need more trainings as such. The facilitation increased my motivation for not only community engagement, but to also build positive relationships deliberately with men of color from all respective ages. Thank you for inviting Angela and I to present our workshop " Trauma-informed Care: Black Men and Mental Health.” The participants were engaging and shared their understanding the symptoms that black and brown men and boys experience day to day. We appreciate their knowledge on this especially important topic and encourage more discussions in the future.

Violence Prevention Professional (VPP) Training

BCHI partnered with law enforcement specialists, government officials, mental health providers, entrepreneurs, artist, educators, and social workers, to educate individuals on the trauma caused by violence. Providing practical and clinical approaches for participants to use when interacting with victims and perpetrators of violence.
