A Celebration of Art and Mental Health

Presented by The Amistad Center, Wadsworth Atheneum, and Brother Carl Hardrick Institute

Join us for an unforgettable evening where art intersects with community wellness, featuring renowned artist and filmmaker Titus Kaphar and his critically acclaimed film, Exhibiting Forgiveness. This special event is presented by The Amistad Center, Wadsworth Atheneum, and Brother Carl Hardrick Institute, and is made possible by the generous support of the Joseph and Robert Cornell Memorial Foundation Fund at the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford Foundation Black Giving Circle Fund, and Brother Carl Hardrick Institute for Violence Prevention and Community Engagement.


About the Event:  I Am A Man Initiative

The I Am A Man initiative is a three-part series that creates intentional spaces for healing, reflection, and connection. It invites participants to engage in bold and meaningful dialogue which is crucial for community healing and progress. These discussions focus on mental health, social justice, and personal growth, and well-being of Black men and boys through community, creativity, and culturally grounded care. Allowing Black men and boys to share their stories and listen to those of others.

The evening will commence with a reception offering hors d’oeuvres, followed by a film screening and a director’s talk.

  • Film Screening: 6:00–8:00 PM
  • Director’s Talk: 8:00–9:00 PM
